Old Pictures

Do you ever wonder about that place-where-forgotten-memories-go? I imagine it to be like an old age home where the elderly sit around the dining table – complaining about children who never visit. Elated when we revisit them after years of neglect, only to have their hearts broken again as we, unable to resist the seductive pull of a future full of uncertain possibility, leave for a place far, far away.

Sometimes they run the risk of being abandoned entirely. When that happens, we put them on the-list-of-endangered-memories, like the name of the girl in this picture (the first love of my naive teenage) – a memory that has been granted protected status for the sole reason that it has been forgotten several times.

As someone wise recently told me, wow! šŸ˜›

    Liked a lot.

Like the c.c vid even more :D.

Dya know most of the songs u come up with are ones on my iPod D-list?

the thought of indie-music-loving, pitchfork-subsrcibing you, posting the video for Broken Wings, which includes the following lyrics “That you’re half of the flesh and blood that makes me whole whoa whoa” made me chuckle.

  4. Heh Heh Says:

    S: thanks again.

revealed: šŸ™‚ I’m going through an 80’s phase these days. Music from *my* wee-little years. I’m surprised you’ve even heard of this stuff.

brown magic: What’s wrong with that line? šŸ™‚

  5. Fadereu Says:

thanks for linking. you say “friend” – do i know thee?

what do you think of the first chapter?

  6. Revealed Says:

Two things I’m indiscriminate about: music and boys.

Cos there’s no such thing as the wrong song; and there’s no such thing as the right boy :D.

  7. Heh Heh Says:

Indeed you do.. and surprised you have not made the connection, considering it was a mail from you that prompted the link-love šŸ™‚

revealed: agree with there being no such thing as a wrong song. And my, cynical about the opposite sex already? what is this world coming to? šŸ™‚

  8. Revealed Says:

Tut-tut. Not cynical. It’s called realism ;). It’s all the rage these days. Hehehe.

  9. Heh Heh Says:

revealed: A realist would say there are a *number* of people who are potentially right. A romantic would say there is *one* right person. But “No such thing as the right boy” sound like the words of a cynic.. Cynicism is, after all, a form of disappointed romanticism, is it not?

  10. Revealed Says:

Funny! Notice the *the*. It’s an important fixture for understanding the sentence :D. There’s prolly quite a few who’d do just fine. Not contesting that :).

Though, I dunno, cynicism is not that far off the mark, I suppose. And aren’t all of us disappointed romantics at some stage?

  11. Heh Heh Says:

revealed: i guess that is true at some point or the other.. Best to get over it quickly, though. Cynicism is highly addictive.. because it’s easy and gives us an exaggerated feeling of self-importance. Like that other bogey – existentialism – it’s just a way of taking oneself too seriously. šŸ™‚
Reptilian sheep, on the other hand, are the *real* reason why everything is the way it is.

  12. Revealed Says:

All hail reptilian sheep, then. I submit to the new world order :).

(Y’know you really *are* a little wise!!!!)

  13. Sughosh Says:

That Kinks song so perfectly captures this need to “freeze a moment”. One of my favourites. And yes, I do revisit old pictures , old letters and sometimes even old emails! šŸ˜€

And sometimes, bits and pieces of memories go missing? Like a tooth, or a leg?
